Tunable Filters

Our mechanically tunable bandpass and bandstop filters come in many version. At frequencies below 6 GHz, they are typically coupled coaxial cavities with a mechanically movable tuning spindle. Above 6 GHz, most units are coupled cylindrical cavities operating in a waveguide mode. Tuning is accomplished with a movable plunger. Most units are gang-tuned, gear coupled to a common shaft. Filters can be provided with direct-reading tape readouts, micrometers or calibration charts. Some coaxial units are available which tune with constant passband width.

Typical specifications are:

  • Type: Bandpass: 4 pole, coaxial
  • Tuning range: 4.4-5.0 GHz
  • Passband width: 30 MHz nominal
  • Passband loss: 2dB max at center frequency
  • Readout type: Direct tape

Overview

TallAmp

RS Microwave has been manufacturing power amplifiers encompassing the RF frequency range 10 MHz to 5 GHz, since 1991. We have developed these KW power level amplifiers for our exclusive in-house use. These rugged amplifiers are used to production-test filters in various operating environments, including temperature-altitude and thermal vacuum. Unconditional stability is standard, with reliable operation over thousands of hours as required in a production environment. RS Microwave production filters are fully tested to meet all specifications, thus ensuring that filters specified at high power will never be returned due to high-power failures. High power testing guarantees “no field failures”. We are now making these amplifiers available to others wishing to perform reliable and cost-effective RF power tests.

Drop-in Filters

These are typically arrays of “drop-in” filters, pre- and post-selected by PIN diode switch modules. Such switched filter packages may contain TTL compatible drivers or BCD decoders.

 Representative specifications are:

  • Package passband: 2-4 GHz

  • Filter passbands: 1/6 of package passband

  • Channel loss: 5 db, including input/output switching Switching time: 50 ns

  • RF power: 0 dBm
